Sesame Smackeroon

Fish dipped into batter with sesame seeds

750g kingklip or other line fish, cut into strips about 6cm long and 3cm thick

oil for frying

flour for coating

seasoning for fish


150g self-raising flour (1cup)
125ml sesame seeds

3ml salt

5ml paprika

+1cup water


Mix the batter ingredient and leave to stand for 1 hour
Season the fish. Dip in flour and shake off excess.
Dip the smackeroons into the batter and deep fry until golden
Drain on absorbent paper. Allow to cool and then fry a second time to prevent the batter from going soft.
Serve with a chutney or a dip
